painting detail of a person looking at the viewer coyly with a wild and abstract background

2008-

Anonymous consists of a series of painted portraits, all measuring 142 x 88cm (a size which is proportional to that of plastic cards, e.g. credit cards etc.). The models used in the portraits are randomly selected. Each piece represents one anonymous figure trapped in a plastic-card sized universe. There are a number of themes running through the project; as it has been ongoing for several years, the themes change with changes in painting style and concept as the years go on.

This project is inspired by German Artist Martin Kippenberger, who began a project in his lifetime which he never managed to complete, attempting to create a series of paintings which, if stacked one on top of the other, would be equal to the height of the artist. This is the overall project goal (at 4cm/painting and a height of 180cm, it will take 45 paintings to complete this collection).
